'American Idol' hopeful Davis out after Wednesday vote
This season's road to becoming the next big singing sensation from "American Idol" ended Thursday for Amy Davis.
The 2000 graduate of Lowell High School became the first female of the 24 finalists eliminated from the seventh season of the talent competition after viewers' votes failed to stack up.
Thirty minutes into Thursday's one-hour live "results" show, host Ryan Seacrest asked 25-year-old Davis to join him on stage as he announced she was out of the running.
"Do you feel you grew a lot through all of this?" Seacrest asked Davis.
"Yes, the whole experience was the best part," she replied before delivering her swan song performance of "Where the Boys Are," the same 1960 tune she sang Wednesday, and which attracted critical comments from judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson.
Davis' mother Jeanette, sporting a white T-shirt with her daughter's face and the words "Vote for Amy," stood within cameras' view as Davis gave her farewell performance.
Since only the final 12 contestants are shown throughout the season, including a re-appearance for the May finale episode, Davis' "Idol" time is officially over for this season.
Two other Hoosiers remain in this season's "American Idol" running: Luke Menard, 29, of Crawfordsville, and Amanda Overmeyer, 23, of Mulberry.
Others eliminated during Thursday's telecast were Garrett Haley, 17, of Elida, Ohio; JoAnne Borgella, 25, of Hoboken, N.J.; and Colton Berry, 18, of Staunton, Va.
