CROWN POINT | Crown Point police said they arrested a 29-year-old Cedar Lake man this week after he allegedly beat his mother in the head and face with a yard statue.
Just after midnight Tuesday, Jason Waise and his mother were at her home in the 1900 Block of West 99th Avenue in Crown Point sitting around a bonfire in the yard when Waise began to order his mother to leave her house, police reports state.
Fearing for her safety, the woman walked to a neighbor's home, but her son followed, police said. As she knocked on the door for help, she picked up a nearby statue to defend herself, but her son took it away and began hitting her with it, police said.
Neighbors heard her screaming and came to help.
When Crown Point police officers arrived, they said they found Waise with blood on his hands and clothes and his mother laying down on the front porch. She was taken to St. Anthony Medical Center for treatment, police reports indicate.
Crown Point Police Chief Pete Land said Thursday Waise was charged with battery, but additional charges may be added.
