SOUTH HAVEN | Not long after South Haven firefighters finished cleaning up from the early Sunday morning fire that heavily damaged one home here, they were called out for a second residential fire.

A neighbor of Kevin and Casey Clay, 708 Fox River Road, reported heavy smoke coming from the Clay home after 2 p.m. Sunday.

Firefighters arrived to find the home's living room on fire. No one was home at the time of the fire. While there was no definitive cause as of late Sunday afternoon, Fire Chief John Kepshire said initial investigation points to a Christmas tree in the living room.

"It reached into the attic, but we knocked it down pretty quick. We stopped it. I'm happy. The house is still standing," Kepshire said.

South Haven was again assisted by firefighters from Portage along with Liberty and Union townships. This is the third residential fire in three days, the fifth in three weeks.

Kepshire estimated damage to the Clay home at $25,000. There were no injuries reported.
