Highland man receives honor for conservation
A Highland man has received the Hall of Fame Award from the Izaak Walton League of America for what is described as his long and devoted service to the league, a national leader in community-based conservation.
The award was presented to Bobby Wright at the annual convention last week in Merrillville.
Wright has been a member of the League's Griffith Chapter since 1988. He has served as the chapter's secretary, president and treasurer, and also has held numerous officer positions for the League's Indiana Division and national board of directors. Locally, he has been active in chapter activities such as fish stockings, stream cleanups and county fair exhibits. In addition to receiving several division awards and three national conservation awards, Wright was named the Indiana Division Waltonian of the Year in 2000.
"Bobby exemplifies the kind of volunteer leadership and commitment to conservation that the Izaak Walton League is all about," said Mike Williams, the League's national president. "We are proud to count him among our ranks and to honor his service to protecting America's outdoors with this award."
