Homewood-Flossmoor Park District announces Music for Minors programs for children ages 4 months to 4 years.
Participants will enjoy the new 42-inch Gathering Drum, where they will explore many ways to create music in addition to a full repertoire of songs, rhymes and dances using small percussion instruments and fun props.
Music for Minors: Pre Walkers is specially geared for children ages 4 months to 1 year. This program introduces children to a wide variety of music, from classical to world. Blankets are recommended for babies to lay on. This class is for any baby not yet walking steadily. It is held from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. Tuesdays, June 26 to Aug. 7. Fee is $30 for residents and $42 for nonresidents. "Babies Make Music" kits consisting of a CD, drum and mallet, maraca, bell, finger cymbals and scarf are available for purchase from the instructor on the first day of class for $43.
Music for Minors: Ones & Twos and Twos & Threes continues the fun for older children ages 1 to 3 who can walk steadily. Percussion instruments and colorful props are used to help strengthen the connection children feel toward music and help them find and identify their singing voice.
Music for Minors: Ones & Twos is held from 9:15 to 10 a.m. Mondays, June 25 to Aug. 6 or Tuesdays, June 26 to Aug. 7.
Music for Minors: Twos & Threes is held from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Mondays, June 25 to Aug. 6, or Tuesdays, June 26 to Aug. 7. Fee for each session is $45 for residents and $67.50 for nonresidents.
All Music for Minors classes meet at the Irwin Community Center, 18120 Highland Ave., Homewood. Parents must attend classes with child.
