KFC spokesman says restaurant is looking into incident
CHESTERTON | A Porter woman told Chesterton police that she found a bloody adhesive bandage in the meal she ordered from KFC in Chesterton.
The woman, Carol McClure, told police she discovered the bandage on Monday evening. McClure told police she placed an order to go, then took her meal home. She told police began eating her meal, and as she got to the bottom of the container of baked beans, she discovered the bandage.
The restaurant is looking into the allegation.
"Food safety is KFC's top priority, and as soon as our franchisee received this report, they began an investigation," KFC spokesman Rick Maynard said.
"At this point, they haven't found any evidence of an employee injury that would require a bandage, but their investigation of this report is continuing."
Police reports state the bandage was the size commonly used for cuts on fingers. McClure told police that after discovering the bandage, she placed it in a plastic bag and called KFC. Police said the manager offered to replace the baked beans for free, but McClure declined.
McClure said she plans to take the bandage to the Porter County Health Department and file a complaint. McClure asked police to document the incident to assist the Health Department if they launch an investigation.
Health Department Administrator Keith Letta was unavailable for comment.
