Visiting Nurses Association offers discounted flu, pneumonia vaccinations

LAPORTE | The Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) of La Porte Regional Health System is offering discounted flu and pneumonia vaccinations.

Community members may visit any of the following clinics:

La Porte ¾ Brentwood, 2002 Andrew Ave., 10 a.m. to noon oct. 22; Al's West, Ind. 2, 10 a.m.-1 p.m .Oct. 28.; Al's East, 702 E. Lincolnway, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 28; and Golden Living Fountainview Terrace, 1900 Andrew Ave., 9-11 a.m. Nov. 4

La Porte County ¾ Kenny and Carl's, Walkerton, 412 Illinois, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 15; Kingsford Heights Community Center*, 515 Wayland, 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 15; Westville United Methodist, 154 Main St., 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 18; Wanatah Town Hall, 104 N. Main St., 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 20; Union Mills Conservation Club*, 100 Mill Pond Road., 8:30-11 a.m. Oct. 23.; Hanna United Methodist*, 101 W. Hopper, 2-4 p.m. Oct. 26; and Rolling Prairie Community Center*, 100 S. Depot St., 2:30-4 p.m. Oct. 29.

Michigan City ¾ Evergreen Baptist*, Trail Creek, 2005 E. Coolspring, 9 to 11 a.m Oct. 16.; Springfield Fire Department, 7111 N. County Road 300, 9-11 a.m. Oct. 21.; Al's Karwick, 1002 N. Karwick Road., 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 23.

* Indicates ample seating should be available. Other locations likely will require some standing while waiting for shots.

Community members may also visit the walk-in clinic, located at 901 S. Woodland Ave. in Michigan City, on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Flu shots are $28; pneumonia shots are $40. Needle-free vaccinations also may be available.

In order to offer the service at a discount to the community, VNA will accept cash, check or Medicare assignment. VNA does not bill private insurance. Patients are responsible for payment in full.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends flu shots for anyone who wishes to reduce their chances of getting the flu, especially children ages 5 and older, pregnant women, healthcare workers and caregivers, people age 50 and older, people of any age with certain chronic medical conditions and those who live in nursing homes and other long term care facilities. The VNA offers vaccinations for persons ages 5-years-old and over, and certain restrictions do apply.
