The case of the people of Illinois against Dr. Alice Lindsay Wynekoop was called for trial in Judge Joseph B. David's Chicago courtroom and the woman physician charged with the murder of her daughter-in-law, Rheta, entered a plea of not guilty.
An old barn in the rear of the Schleman real estate office on Washington street in Valparaiso is being razed. It was recently condemned by Fire Chief John G. Marks. The old Thompson boarding house on College Hill has also been condemned by Chief Marks.
The foundation is being laid for adding 125,000 to 150,000 more employes to steel mill pay rolls of the nation this spring. Several thousand of that number will go to work in Calumet district plants.
Porter County Board of Commissioners will become democratic for the first time in fifty years when Morgan Porch takes over the seat of Elias Cain. Porch's accession on the board will give the democrats two of the three seats, Frank Bender, the other democrat, taking office a year ago. Walter Atwell, of the South district, is the republican member.
A $750,000 viaduct over the multiple railroad crossing on Forsythe avenue in East Chicago will be constructed next year if no legal obstacles intervene , the state highway commission announced today.
The Valparaiso city council at a meeting adopted a resolution favoring a municipal airport for Valparaiso, but deferred action toward entering a lease with William Urschel, owner of the 160-acre tract, just north of Wolff's Corners, as an airport site, and thereby securing CWA funds in the amount from $3,500 to $5,000 for its development.

Contests for the Democratic nomination for alderman appeared certain in only two Calumet City wards Saturday.
Valparaiso motorists along with others will begin paying higher tolls on the Northern Indiana Toll Road. The new tolls are a result of too many months operation in the red last year. The sharpest increases will be for short trips on the west half of the road between South Bend and the Illinois border. Tolls will be increased from $1.95 to $2 for passenger cars making the full 156-mile trip.
A seven - state meeting in Hammond of three powerful petroleum unions Saturday pledge unanimity to their intention "to strike within the next few days" - If the industry fails to grant "substantial" wage increases.
After a two hour tour of the Porter County Courthouse the Commissioners agreed that the interior of the building needs some touching up. A notice for bids for cleaning and painting certain parts of the courthouse was drawn up by the group.
During the first regular meeting in its new headquarters at Merrillville, the county library board officially adopted a title for its library system. A new, independent operation that went into effect on Jan. 1 will now be known as The Public Libraries of Lake County.

Charging U. S. Steel Corp. with breach of contract and libel, angry union leaders filed two lawsuits Tuesday in Chicago. One suit charges that U. S. Steel breached a contract to build a roll mill at South Works. In the other suit USW officials charge the company libeled them in newspaper ads placed in Chicago-area papers.
The 100-member Porter County Bar Association elected the following to one-year terms: Norman Buls, president; Delmar Hoeppner, vice president; Mary Harper, secretary; and James Sullivan, treasurer.
A class-action lawsuit has been filed in U.S. District Court accusing the Hammond Housing Authority of charging excess rents.
James Reed, general manager of Chester Inc., was named 1984 president of the Board of Directors of United Way of Porter County. Ed Gray, plant manager of Pfizer Inc., will serve as 1984 vice president.
Changes in precinct boundaries will still be proposed this year by the chairman of city, town and township precinct organizations in Lake County.
