SCHERERVILLE | The body of a man found dead Tuesday afternoon in a Schererville drainage ditch has been identified as a Highland man reported missing in mid-November.
Family confirmed on Wednesday the identity of 46-year-old Anthony "Tony" Packauskas, Lake County Coroner David Pastrick said.
An autopsy on Packauskas showed no visible signs of internal or external trauma and a cause of death has not been determined, Pastrick said. Authorities are awaiting toxicology reports, which should be available in seven to 10 days, he said.
Pastrick said there were no obvious signs of foul play.
A man who works at a business near Central Avenue Ditch discovered the body, face down in the ditch. The ditch runs between several businesses in an industrial park on Winston Court, near Kennedy Avenue.
Pastrick said that Schererville and Highland police are investigating the death to determine how Packauskas ended up there. The coroner's office estimated that he had been there for two or three days.
Packauskas, of the 9700 block of Fifth Street, was last heard from Nov. 13, according to the Highland Police Department Web site.
