Congressman to tour region this week

U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky to stop at many NWI sites

U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky, D-Ind., will be visiting Northwest Indiana this week, with stops at a grade school, fire station and the South Shore Line.

He will be making appearances in Union Township, Hobart, Merrillville and Gary, according to a news release from his Washington, D.C., office.

He also will be traveling to Fowler, Ind., where he will speak at 11 a.m. Friday at the Fowler Ridge Wind Farm, 1843 S. 300 East.

Visclosky's initial visit will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday when he travels to Union Center Elementary School, 272 N. 600 West in Union Township.

While at the school, Visclosky will visit with third-graders and attend a presentation about himself by one of the students.

That day, he will travel to Hobart Fire Station No. 1, 400 E. 10th St., where at 4:15 p.m. he will attend the unveiling of the department's new exhaust system.

The system was paid for with a U.S. Department of Homeland Security Fire Grant that Visclosky helped the Hobart Fire Department secure.

Visclosky's schedule then will take him to Merrillville, where he will host a 6 p.m. Academy Night at NiSource, 801 E. 86th Ave.

He will be sharing information with local high school students about applying to the United States Service Academies.

On Friday, Visclosky will be at the Gary Metro Center Station, 200 W. Fourth Ave., Gary, from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. to greet riders on the South Shore Line.
