AIR FORCE | Mark Gregg
Air Force Airman Mark A. Gregg has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, Gregg studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Steve Gregg, of Hobart, and a 2007 graduate of Hobart High School.
AIR FORCE | Daniel Poe
Air Force Airman 1st Class Daniel S. Poe has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Linda Norton, of Schererville, and Richard Poe, of Highland. The airman graduated in 2001 from Lake Central High School, St. John, and received a bachelor's degree in 2006 from Purdue University Calumet, Hammond.
AIR FORCE | Alexander James
Air Force Reserve Airman Alexander James has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, core values, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree relating through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Tina James of Crown Point. James is a 2005 graduate of Merrillville High School.
ARMY | Katherine Carr
Army Reserve Pvt. Katherine Carr has graduated from basic military training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C., to be a member of the Army National Guard or Reserve Split-option Program.
The program allows students between their junior and senior year of high school to attend national guard or reserve weekend drills while still in school and pursue a military career specialty after they graduate from high school.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
She is the daughter of Tracy Carr of Hammond, and niece of Laura McAvoy of Tinley Park, Ill.
Carr is currently a student at Morton Senior High School, Hammond.
