Car Cruise features free show tonight
CROWN POINT | Tonight's Crown Point Car Cruise will feature a show-stopping bicycle stunt show by Midwest Bike Trials Demo Team in Parry Court.
The weekly cruise night event takes place from 5 to 8:30 p.m. around the downtown square, with registration at 4:30 p.m. for those who want to show off their classic and vintage cars. Goody bags will be distributed to all car cruise participants this week while supplies last.
Event attendees are encouraged to wear patriotic colors one day in advance of the Independence Day holiday. This week's featured car, a 1968 Ford Shelby owned by George Scheeringa, will be arriving at 6 p.m. to pick the next featured car.
The Midwest Bike Trials Demo Team is a rare bicycle stunt show that very few people have ever been exposed to before. The team has traveled across the Midwest performing in various events such as The Chicago Bike Show, Bourbonnais Friendship Festival, National Football Hall of Fame Parade and at mountain bike races.
The team consists of two stunt riders, Matthew Kelley, team coordinator/rider, and Graham Bolkema, team rider, who began riding bike trials in the summer of 2003 and have devoted countless hours to their craft.
"But here in 2008 we are ready to go with an awesome stunt show that will have event the coolest teenager leaving with a grin. You've never seen anything like this before; it's free, fun and family friendly," said Kelley.
The stunt riders will be available to sign autographs throughout the show, which will continue all evening. During the car cruise, the historic downtown goes back to the era of hot rods and muscle cars while oldies music fills the air. There is no cost to attend.
The car cruise season is sponsored by the City of Crown Point, Mayor's Office of Special Events and Crown Point business community. For more information, contact Jennifer Bzdil, special events director, at (219) 662-3290 or jbzdil@crownpoint.in.gov
