MERRILLVILLE | Developers of the Foxmoor subdivision are excited at the prospect of the first homes being built at the property on U.S. 30.

Joe Gupta, of GCC Merrillville Venture, expects some home construction will take place before Thanksgiving. He said the work will begin as soon as the proper building permits are received from the town.

Single-family homes and duplexes are planned for the subdivision, which is on the former Broadmoor golf course just west of Whitcomb Street. A portion of the property also will be used for commercial purposes, Gupta said.

"I think it's going to be great," he said.

Roads have been paved, and workers have installed utilities and street lights in the subdivision, Gupta said.

He said he's excited to have a traffic signal installed on U.S. 30 at the main entrance of the subdivision, which will make it easier for people to enter and exit.

"It's good to see they're moving forward," Plan Commission member Brian Dering said.

Dering said he is impressed with the efforts the developers have made to please town officials and area residents. The developers committed to preserve a wetland area located in the subdivision, which could later become a park, he said.

"It looks like it should be a really beautiful development," Dering said.
