CHICAGO (AP) -- A 23-year-old Chicago Heights woman has been charged with reckless homicide and drunken driving in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Chicago over the weekend that killed a 36-year-old man.

Evann Johnson was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident in the Sunday morning crash that killed John Barnes.

Barnes was struck by a vehicle while walking along a South Side street. He was taken to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:45 a.m.

Witnesses gave police a description of the vehicle that struck Barnes, and police in southwest suburban Tinley Park pulled Johnson over in her car a short time later.

Authorities say Johnson was being held and was scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Tuesday.
