SAUK VILLAGE | The village has a new treasurer, Sauk Village resident Genorise Carmichael.

Carmichael was sworn into office at last week's Village Board meeting. She replaces Jim Griegel, who resigned Oct. 23, the mayor's Chief of Staff Brunetta Hill-Corley said.

The position is part-time and pays $6,000 annually. Carmichael will be responsible for processing payroll checks and working with Finance Director Beverly Sterrett on the budget.

Carmichael is a Cobalt programmer and project manager for Northern Trust in Chicago, Hill-Corley said.

Hill-Corley said Carmichael has extensive experience with computer programs dealing with futures and investments and has worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, Bankers Life and Casualty Co. and JP Morgan Chase.

"In order to write a program, you need to understand roles of payable and receivables system," Hill-Corley said. "She's another set of eyes to make sure we are on target, that our figures we are projecting are as correct as they can be. But (she) also provides ideas how the budget can be better managed in Sauk Village and to the benefit of taxpayers."

Carmichael will be expected to attend pension board and Village Board meetings.

Griegel's resignation comes after the resignation of former Police Chief Tom Lacheta in mid-October.

Since Lacheta had enough years of service to qualify for a pension, the resignation is considered a retirement.

Deputy Chief Rebecca Salsberry was appointed interim police chief.

Hill-Corley said the job of police chief has not been posted yet.

On May 12, the day new Village President Lewis Towers was sworn in, Towers put all department heads on notice he was giving them a 90-day evaluation period. That period ended Aug. 12, and evaluations were given to Towers at that time.

Former Fire Chief Christopher Sewell tendered his resignation in September to become fire chief in Flossmoor.

Longtime Deputy Fire Chief Alan Stoffregen was appointed the new fire chief in mid-October.
