Learn how to get healthy at the Lowell Public Library through the EFNEP teaching series Small Steps to Health sponsored by the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service and presented by Family Nutrition Advisor Nicole Katon. Bishop Noll Prep Academy, 1519 Hoffman St., will host an open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11. Families from area communities are invited to attend to see the Prep Academy in action. The Prep Academy is comprised of seventh and eighth grades and hosts the one-to-one laptop program and an innovative curriculum. OVEREATERS ANONYMOUS | Lake Station
Compulsive overeaters are invited to a new weekly meeting of Overeaters Anonymous from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays in Meeting Room B at the Lake County Public Library's Lake Station-New Chicago branch, 2007 Central Ave. There are no dues, fees or weigh-ins. The only requirement is a desire to stop eating compulsively. OA views compulsive overeating as a physical, emotional and spiritual disease that can be arrested, but not cured. Members seek recovery on all three levels by following a 12 Step program patterned after Alcoholics Anonymous.

Join First Financial Bank’s Crossroads department for Morning Hour featuring: "Vintage Valentines" with Pat Kincaid at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 11 at the Highland Public Library, 2841 Jewett Ave. Kincaid is a member of the National Valentine Collectors Association and will present some history and examples of Valentines dating back to 1908. Attendees will have an opportunity to make Valentines from paper medallions and hear some stories behind these exchanged treasures. M & M Productions offers a quartet of perfect date night films at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at Center Stage Studio Theatre, 227 Center St. The four short films are part of M & M's independent Audience Choice Film Festival, which allows the audience to grade the film. All notes and comments are sent to the filmmakers. Titles are "My Name is Wallace," a sweet and touching comedy; "Caught in Paint," a video of painting and dance; "In The Catbird Seat," a fable of twists and turns; and "Sympathetic Details," a psychological thriller showing an assassin who decides to stop killing for moral reasons.
