FALL PRODUCTION | Hammond

Gavit High School Theatre students perform the rock opera "Rent" at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20 and 21 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 22. The show was written and composed by Jonathan Larson and closely parallels Giacomo Puccini's opera "La Boheme." The show follows the lives of several Bohemian artists in the "Alphabet City" neighborhood of New York City at the end of the 1980s. FUNDRAISER | Griffith

The Griffith Public Schools Educational Foundation celebrates its 25th anniversary with a silent auction and wine tasting fundraiser from 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 20 at St. Mary Hildebrandt Hal, 525 N. Lafayette St. Tickets are $20 and are available at the administration center, 201 N. Griffith Blvd., or the various school offices.

SPAGHETTI DINNER | East Chicago

The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Allied Post 369 is having an all-you-can-eat spaghetti fest from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Post home, 1401 W. Chicago Ave., which is next to Bishop Noll Institute. There will also be a silent auction and bake sale. The cost is $6 per person. Donations accepted.

SHOPPING TRIP | Crown Point

Silver Bell Club Lodge 2365 PNA will sponsor its first Christkindlmarket shopping trip to Chicago by bus on Dec. 9. PERFORMANCE | Hammond

The Bishop Noll Institute Theatre Department presents "Cinderella" at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 and 21 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 22. Tickets are $5 for students, $6 for adults. Bishop Noll is at 1519 Hoffman St.

KEEPING WATER SAFE | Hobart

How well we monitor our drinking water and finding effective ways to treat contamination are the focus of a discussion 6:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at Science Cafe at First Unitarian Church's Parish Hall, 497 Main St. (at the railroad crossing). Refreshments begin 6:30 p.m. and program begins at 7 p.m. Professor Julie Peller of Indiana University Northwest will be the guest speaker. She and her students have sampled Lake Michigan water and she has published studies on the subject. Science Cafe is a monthly event at the Unitarian church, featuring area scientists speaking on a wide range of topics. Admission is free, children are welcome and the public is invited.

DINNER THEATRE | Gary

Theatre by the Lake, 436 S. Lake St., presents another installment of its dinner theatre series on Nov. 20 and 21. Enjoy dinner and the new stage play "Journey 2 Redemption," starring Nathaniel Tate, Emmauel Turner, Takia Avant, and Bridney Hayes. Tickets range from $10 to $25. Dinner is at 7 p.m., by reservation only. Play is open to the public at 8:30. Admission to the play only is $10.

HOLIDAY BAZAAR | Highland

Fair Haven Center for Women hosts a Hope for the Holiday bazaar from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 21 at Wicker Park, Ridge Road and Indianapolis Boulevard. The event features more than 30 vendors, choirs and numerous raffles, including gift baskets. A bake sale, walking tacos, coffee and drinks will be available. A lunch from Round the Clock Restaurant is included with a pre-purchased ticket of $10. Price also includes entrance and three raffle tickets. One raffle ticket for each old cell phone donated.

HOLIDAY PARADE | East Chicago

The city offers its fifth annual holiday parade at noon Nov. 21. The parade route is from Grand Boulevard to Broadway to Main Street to Columbus Drive to Parrish Avenue to Washington Park. The parade is followed by the lighting of the trees at the park and the event concludes with the celebration of lights at the Greenhouse, 1615 E. 142nd St.

CHARITY EVENT | Gary

Sample an assortment of culinary delights by African-American chefs at the 18th annual Macho Cuisine event that showcases the culinary skills and talents of African-American men and their guests. Money raised supports the Urban League of Northwest Indiana Inc. The event is from noon to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Baber Youth Center, 2001 Massachusetts Ave. Donation is $10 per ticket. Please make checks payable to the Urban League Guild. Tickets may be purchased at the Urban League offices, 3101 Broadway or at the door.

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA | Griffith

Beiriger Elementary School, 601 N. Lillian St., is hosting its annual breakfast with Santa from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 5. Breakfast is pancakes, sausage and a beverage. Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for children and will be sold at the door. Children can visit with Santa and have a professional picture taken for $10. A variety of children's games and a cake/holiday goodies walk will take place in the gym. Free crafts and face painting are also available. There is a basket raffle during breakfast. Proceeds go toward student programs.

GED TEST | Gary

The Lake Ridge Adult Education Center, 6111 W. Ridge Road, will be giving the GED test on Dec. 16 and 17. Registration is now being taken until Dec. 15. Office hours are 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. weekdays.
