Throwing money out the windows?
The Lake County Council is preparing to vote later this month on borrowing up to $12 million for infrastructure improvements that include replacing more than 600 windows, light fixtures, boilers and water heaters. The council needs to weigh carefully the expected energy savings and compare that with the cost of borrowing money to make sure it's a smart investment.
And don't waste money on buildings outside Crown Point when those outlying buildings have been targeted for closing not only by the Good Government Initiative but also by the "Red Book" of county cost cut ideas.
