I am asking U.S. Sen. Evan Bayh to please stand up with working families and cosponsor the Employee Free Choice Act.
I had to wait several years to get my first contract with union. During these times it was very tough to provide for my family. The majority of my co-workers wanted the union but were afraid to stand up and say something because they were afraid of being fired. I know people who have been fired because they supported the union. Why should people worry about losing their job, when all they are trying to do is support their family?
There are laws set in place to stop this from happening, but there are not tough enough penalties for the employers who do so. This is why I urge Bayh to cosponsor the Employee Free Choice Act. The EFCA will make harsher penalties to employers who harass employees who support the union. This will allow a worker to stand up for their family without worrying about losing their job.
