Luke Harangody Diary: A disappointing end to the season

We had a disappointing end to our season when we lost to Washington State in the second round of the NCAA tournament at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

We went into the game feeling good about our chances, but we clearly didn't play one of our better games. I felt like I let the team down and could have played much better. I think it was a sentiment that all of us felt after the game.

As difficult as it was for us to have the season end, Coach (Mike) Brey was quick to point out in the locker room how much we had accomplished during the season, and how we had surpassed any of the expectations that others had for us when we started the year.

Our goal when we started the year was to get to the second weekend in March and play in the Sweet 16. We didn't do that, but I do think that this will be motivation for us next year, just like losing in the first round was for us after losing to Winthrop last season.

The first thing I said to our strength and conditioning coach, Tony Rolinki, when I entered the locker room after the game was "back to work." I feel that there is so much of my game that I can improve on if I am going to help the team next year. As satisfying as this season was for me personally, I know that I can help this team even more by getting better in several areas.

I'm excited for next season already and we have a great nucleus coming back. The only person we lose is Rob Kurz, but that is going to be a huge loss for us. He has meant so much to our team over the past two seasons; the leadership he displayed both on and off the court was amazing. Rob was someone we all learned a great deal from because of his work ethic both on and of the court.

I can't wait to get back on the court, but for now, I'll concentrate on my studies and working hard in the weight room. The 2008-09 season can't come soon enough!

Thanks for following the Irish and me all season long and for all the well wishes I have received from all of you. Your support has meant a great deal to me over the past two seasons.

See you next season at the Joyce Center.

As always, Go Irish!
