E.C. Central grad E'Twaun Moore had 22 points and three rebounds, and Valparaiso High product Robbie Hummel added 20 points and nine boards as No. 6 Purdue beat No. 9 Tennessee 73-72 in the Paradise Jam championship game in the Virgin Islands.

Moore was named the tournament MVP.

Purdue (4-0) also had 11 points from JaJuan Johnson.

Tennessee (4-1) was led by Wayne Chism, who had a game-high 24 points.

Blue Demons claim third place

DePaul 58, Saint Joseph's 51 | The Blue Demons (3-1) won the third-place game at the Paradise Jam as Will Walker had a game-high 25 points. Munster grad Mike Bizoukas had two points for DePaul. The Blue Demons held their fourth straight opponent under 60 points to start the season.

American, Luptak fall to Fairfield

Fairfield 72, American 56 | Munster grad Steve Luptak had three points for American (0-5).

Van Weelden contributes to win

Loyola 60, Western Michigan 58 | Munster grad Aric Van Weelden had five points for the Ramblers (3-1). Terrence Hill scored 16 points and Walt Gibler added 14, including a go-ahead three-point play with 3:11 to play.

Women's Basketball

Jernigan, Xavier win big

No. 9 Xavier 92, MVSU 52 | The Musketeers improved to 3-0 as Dee Dee Jernigan (E.C. Central) went 0-for-3 from the field and did not score against Mississippi Valley State.

The Musketeers had a 5 a.m. bus to the airport today for a flight to the Bahamas, where they will play No. 18 Kansas in a tournament.
