Wabash's Zimmer named All-Region

Wabash College's Andrew Zimmer (Hobart) has been named to the D3hoops.com All-Region team for the second straight year.

The senior center was named to the men's All-Great Lakes First Team after earning third team honors last season.

The Little Giants' Most Valuable Player ranked third in the North Coast Athletic Conference in scoring with an average of 17 points per game.

Zimmer also finished fifth in rebounding (7.4), was second in blocked shots (1.25) and ranked as the league's fourth-best free throw shooter (82.4 percent). He also shot 51.2 percent from the floor, which ranked 10th in the league.

He recorded single-game bests for his career in points (36) and rebounds (14) against Oberlin College. He finished his career with 1,374 points -- 10th on the school's all-time list. Zimmer's career total of 596 rebounds, ranks him No. 9 all-time. His total of 118 blocked shots ranks third in school history.

Zimmer is one of only three Wabash players in history to score more than 1,000 points, grab more than 500 rebounds and block more than 100 shots

Women's basketball

DePauw junior guard Cassie Pruzin (Crown Point) has been named to the D3hoops.com All-America team.

Pruzin, a first team all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference pick, was DePauw's second-leading scorer, averaging 14.4 points per game. She also averaged 6.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.6 steals per game, and made 71 3-point baskets while helping the Tigers (28-4) to their third straight NCAA Division III quarterfinal appearance.

Baseball

Senior Mike Kalina (Munster) is batting .472 for Northwestern University this season. Kalina has 25 hits, including a home run, and has driven in 13 runs. The outfielder has a .642 slugging percentage, a .509 on-base percentage and is fielding at a 100 percent rate with 19 putouts.

Kalina's teammate Tommy Finn (Andrean) has driven in five runs, has an on-base percentage of .339 and has a fielding percentage of .984 with 27 putouts.

Ball State University sophomore Joe Mack (Andrean) is hitting .320 in 12 games, including two starts.

The first baseman has hit a home run and driven in 11 runs this season. He has a slugging percentage of .600 and an on-base percentage of .370.

Chris Saroff (Crown Point) is hitting .411 for the University of Indianapolis with two home runs, 23 RBIs and 15 runs scored. Saroff has a slugging percentage of .603 and an on-base percentage of .494. His fielding percentage is .972.

Wabash College infielder Matt Dodaro (Lake Central) is hitting .311 for the Little Giants. The junior has cracked three homers, driven in 12 runs and has 19 hits. He has a slugging percentage of .557 and an on-base percentage of .386.

Girls track and field

Marquette sophomore Rachel Thiel (Lowell) qualified for the NCAA Regional after winning the shot put (47-9) at Arizona State University's Baldy Castillo Invitational. Golden Eagles senior teammate Cassie Peller (Chesterton) qualified for the NCAA Regional in the 1,500-meter run (4:25.85).

Miami (Ohio) sophomore Kristen Mathews (Griffith) finished fourth at the Shamrock Invitational in Conway, S.C., with a jump of 5 feet, 5 inches.

Softball

Syracuse freshman Hallie Gibbs (Munster) has hit two homers and driven in 10 runs in 23 games this season for the Orangemen (7-16).

Gibbs, who's started all 23 games, has an on-base percentage of .325.
