It usually is the shoes and not the number that Beecher coach Dawn Micele looks at when she differentiates between junior twins Cody and Kyle Rietveldt. Cody wears white cleats with blue trim and his twin brother wears yellow shoes.

"That is a way to tell them apart," Micele said. "We all kind of laugh about it."

You may need a scorecard with the Bobcats as there are four sets of brothers on the team, and it was something that Micele had to bring to their attention.

"We didn't even know, but it is kind of cool," said junior Jeremy Johns, whose brother A.J. is a freshman. "We are all like brothers because we have played together on the Beecher Stingers and the Crete Hawks."

There is also Jacob (junior) and Nick Giroux (freshman), and Steven (senior) and J.T. Toensing (sophomore). They all have a common goal of winning the Class 1A Peotone Regional and possibly having a chance to play in the state finals.

"We have a good team, if we can just keep our heads," Steven Toensing said. "We have all played together, and we have the talent."

Steven and J.T. had the opportunity last summer to work together at a Christian camp in Kingston. While siblings usually want time away from each other, the two enjoyed being together. They worked with mentally challenged children, and it gave them a different perspective.

"It really is just a regular summer camp and we were just part of helping others," Steven said. "After a couple of days, you don't really notice they have disabilities."

It was the first time J.T. had worked at the camp and he too said it was a valuable experience.

"You are doing things to help other people," J.T. said. "You get to take care of a kid, and you learn different things. It is an experience that I am glad I have had the chance to be a part of."

Steven said he wasn't sure how his brother would come through, but he was impressed in the training session.

"He was in there changing diapers and helping people out," Steven said. "At first, maybe he wasn't real comfortable, but I saw my brother really get involved."
