Ed Rosebaum was the star of the day as South Central (10-7) won its Spring Classic baseball tournament Saturday.
Rosebaum had two hits and a double in a 7-3 win over Westville in the title game. In a 4-3 semifinal win over LaVille, he picked up the complete-game victory to go with a home run and three RBIs.
Sean Manaea (3-1) had nine strikeouts over five innings against the Blackhawks (10-4).
James Martin had two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI for Westville in a 7-3 semifinal win over John Glenn.
Valparaiso 8, Munster 4
Five-run second fuels Valpo win
Scott Kickbush and Billy Timmerman each had two hits and two runs scored as the visiting Vikings (8-9) defeated the Mustangs (8-10). Valparaiso scored five runs in the second inning and added three insurance runs in the seventh.
Josh Lukoshus had two RBIs for Munster.
Wheeler 2-8, River Forest 1-5
Bearcats earn GSSC sweep
Tom Wilk's RBI double in the eighth inning gave the Bearcats (11-6, 6-1) the opener, then Jared Havens had two doubles and three RBIs in the nightcap for the Greater South Shore Conference sweep against the Ingots.
Spencer Blaney had triple in the opener and a double in the nightcap for Wheeler.
Griffith 18, Kankakee Valley 5
Panthers pounce on Kougars
Kevin Konopasek and Mark Miecznikowski each homered as the Panthers (9-10, 4-5) had 15 hits in the Northwest Crossroads Conference rout of the Kougars (10-5, 3-4).
Miecznikowski also had two doubles as Griffith scored six runs in the second inning and three in the fourth.
Hanover Central 10, Hobart 5
Wildcats double up Brickies
Nick Sampognaro and Jesse Fernandez had two hits each to lead the Wildcats past the Brickies (6-12).
Hanover Central took advantage of five Hobart errors. The Brickies' Ricky Oglesby was 2-3 with a triple and an RBI.
North Newton 7-4, M.C. Marquette 3-7
Schroeder, Spartans sweep Blazers
Michael Schroeder had three homers and five RBIs on the day as the Spartans (9-6, 3-4) took two GSSC games from the Blazers.
Rensselaer 4-5, Tipton 0-9
Graf's bat leads Bombers to split
Tim Graf was 5-for-7 with three doubles and four RBIs as the Bombers (5-11, 2-6) to a Hoosier Conference split with the Blue Devils.
In the first game, Jake Egan struck out nine in tossing a shutout. Kory Chapman was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Bishop Noll 7-10, Whiting 1-0
No. 10 Warriors sweep No. 8 Oilers
The Times No. 8 Warriors (11-5, 7-1) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the nightcap and complete a GSSC sweep of the No. 8 Oilers.
Walter Ziller had three RBIs in the second game.
Mike Perez had a grand slam in the opener as Tony Balcazar struck out 10 and threw a one-hitter.

LaCrosse 8-4, South Newton 4-2
Hucker leads Tigers to sweep
Amy Hucker (10-9) allowed six total hits in two complete-game wins as the Tigers (10-9) swept a doubleheader from the visiting Rebels (5-8).
Hucker totaled seven strikeouts, and she helped her own cause with four hits, including a triple. Teammate Lauren Turner was a combined 4-for-5 with two RBIs. Allison Tucker had two RBIs in the opener, while Alicia Greenboam had two RBIs in the nightcap.
Whiting 5, Hebron 1
Dumezich posts 19 Ks in win
Mel Dumezich (7-1) tossed a two-hitter with 19 strikeouts and added a key RBI triple in a five-run sixth inning as the No. 9 Oilers (12-3) defeated the host Hawks (13-4).
Teammate Amanda Blackwell added a two-run double in the sixth.
Mollie Lindeman had a solo home run for Hebron.

Hebron goes 4-0
The Hawks (9-1) defeated Columbia City (25-7, 25-7), Wapahani (25-8, 25-11), Zionsville (25-13, 25-16) and the host Royals (25-19, 25-21) to take the title. Michael Hernandez (22 kills, 18 digs and five aces) and David Ortiz (26 kills, 16 digs, 10 aces, eight block kills) paced Hebron. Brett Poncsak contributed 51 assists, nine kills and four aces.

Chesterton places fourth overall
Kyle Grassel placed second individually with a 1-over-par 73 to help Times No. 1 Chesterton place fourth overall with 325, The state No. 4 Trojans were one of five ranked teams at the meet. Third-ranked Hamilton Southeastern won the event with 317
Rensselaer Invitational
C.P.'s Grubnich takes medalist honors
Crown Point's Nick Grubnich was medalist with a 79 and Lake Central's Vince Barker was third (82) at Curtis Creek.
Twin Lakes won the meet with 333 strokes, followed by Times No. 7 L.C. (347) and No. 4 Valparaiso (347). Lake Central took second by virtue of the fifth man's score.
Andrean's Will Gogolak was fifth (84) as the No. 2 59ers finished fourth (348).
Led by Tony Rubino's 84, Times No. 6 Munster was fifth, followed by No. 3 Boone Grove (351), which was led by Taylor Noel's 85. Crown Point finished seventh (358), followed by Hanover Central (362) as Dana Plant had an 85.

Hobart dropped just one set in a shutout of Andrean.
River Forest 3, Bishop Noll 2
Ingots edge Warriors
R.F. (6-6, 2-3) swept singles to get past Noll (4-7, 1-1) in a Greater South Shore Conference match.
