LAPORTE | Munster middle hitter Anna Dorn worked in a full practice just one day in the week leading up to Saturday's Class 4A LaPorte Regional.

A week ago Sunday, Dorn was in a car accident that slipped a disc in her back, making jumping and hitting painful.

But her first thought was of the Saturday regional semifinal match against LaPorte.

"I was only focused on this weekend," Dorn said. "I knew even if it was painful, I was going to play. I wasn't really thinking in the long term, just to play LaPorte."

The senior -- who said the adrenaline of the regional match killed any residual pain -- had six kills and a pair of block kills, but the Slicers' attack was too much as LaPorte moved on to the night final game with a 25-8, 25-21, 25-14 win over Munster.

After the Mustangs looked "sluggish" in the first game, Dorn picked up three of her kills in Game 2, in which Munster took the lead near the halfway point, but couldn't hold onto the momentum.

"I told them I do not want to remember the team that played the first game," Munster coach Tracy Afman said. "I want to remember the team that played the second game."

Junior middle Heather Boyan had six kills with six block kills against a shorter Slicers squad.

"When our tallest (player) is 5-foot-9, 5-10, we knew we had to be creative," LaPorte coach Marybeth Lebo said. "We were able to move the ball around a lot tip wise."

LaPorte junior outside hitter Kim Trojan took over the game with seven kills in the first game and another four in the second.

"I don't think we were ready to come in and play our game," Dorn said. "LaPorte is a completely different team in the postseason than the are in the regular season. I just think that we weren't as focused and in that second game, we weren't ready to finish it like that so I'm really proud of that second game."
