SCHERERVILLE | You might say that John Nutley won the "daily double" at Illiana Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

The veteran Midlothian stock car driver began the night by winning the 20-lap Schepel Performance (limited) late model main event and then came back to capture the 25-lap super late model feature race. It marked the first time in the track's history that the same driver captured both late model feature races in one night.

Nutley wheeled his almost identical-looking silver Chevrolets to the victories, the limited late model headliner being his seven consecutive win in that division. In the super late model 25 lapper, Nutley took the lead from Dean Patterson on lap 14 and held of a challenging Mike White at the checkered flag as the pair raced side-by-side to the finish line.

"Winning two features is not an easy thing to do," Nutley said. "But both cars are on a rail now.I kind of messed up on that last lap. I don't know if I pushed the car a little too hard or what, but Mike (White) was right there with me."

Finishing behind Nutley and White in the super late model main event were Dave Gentile Jr., fastest qualifier Anthony Danta and Dyer's Jack Kalwasinski. Rita Fields of Valparaiso wound up second to Nutley in the limited late model headliner with Phil Splant of Dyer and Doug Hayes trailing.

Racing action on Illiana's quarter-mile oval saw Tony Meier of Lansing win the 25-lap Turbo Stox feature. Meier and his fast-back Monte Carlo bested two-time division champion Bill Serviss and Billy Jarrells of Griffith. Jimmy Hansen of Crown Point was the winner of the 20-lap Legends division main event, defeating Alex Arelano and defending division champ Chris King of Kouts.

Chris Czaszwicz of Alsip won the 15-lap "A" feature for Pure Stock division drivers with 12-year-old Paul Fusko of Portage taking top honors in the 10-lap Bandoleros race.
