New program launch: Diesel technology coming fall 2026
Ivy Tech Community College Lake County is expanding its transportation and technical education offerings with the launch of four new Diesel Technology programs at the East Chicago location beginning fall 2026.
Designed to meet the growing demand for skilled diesel technicians across Northwest Indiana and the Greater Chicago area, these new pathways will prepare students for careers in trucking, logistics, industrial maintenance and other high-demand industries.
The new Diesel Technology program offerings include:
- Associate of Applied Science in Diesel Technology
- Technical Certificate in Diesel Heavy Truck Technology
- Certificate in Diesel Electronic Controls
- Certificate in Truck Chassis Systems
This expansion builds on Ivy Tech’s strong Automotive Technology program and creates a seamless pathway for students to advance their skills through stackable credentials that lead to high-wage careers.
Students will gain hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment, including heavy-duty trucks, engines and advanced diagnostic systems in the East Chicago location labs.
By introducing Diesel Technology programs, Ivy Tech is also helping bridge a gap for local high school students who have access to gasoline automotive programs but limited opportunities to pursue diesel training, creating a stronger, more connected talent pipeline for the region.
Enrollment for these programs is now open for the fall 2026 semester. Prospective students are encouraged to explore these new opportunities now and take the next step toward a high-demand, hands-on career. Apply here.
