Jewel-Osco turns 125 years old in 2024 and has big plans to celebrate the milestone with a lineup of exciting anniversary-themed events. The party kicks off Aug. 23, and you are invited!

The schedule of fun planned festivities includes:
- Prizes: Customers can enter for the chance to win in-store prizes and be eligible for valuable giveaways.
- Pop-Up Vendors: Shoppers should plan to walk around and explore a collection of surprise pop-up vendors stationed across the property, from the parking lot to the produce aisles, all offering the opportunity to take advantage of freebies and taste product samples.
- Celebrities: Local radio personality Violeta from 101.9 FM’s “The Morning Mix” will be on hand, shaking up batches of customized cocktails (with help from some surprise celebrity guest partners) at Kinzie on the Rocks, Jewel-Osco’s very own on-site wine/cocktail bar. Happy hour, indeed!
- Selfie Bait: Don’t forget to snap a selfie to post on social media in front of a custom art installation designed especially for the celebration by a local artist, guaranteed to add a dash of color and culture to any Jewel-Osco shopping experience.
Jewel-Osco has been a Chicagoland fixture for more than a century now, with good reason. Through the decades, customers have come to know and depend on the beloved hometown supermarket-pharmacy franchise for its diverse inventory of quality products, friendly staff, fair prices and convenience in a clean, welcoming shopping environment.
It all started back in 1899 with Frank Ross and his brother-in-law Frank Skiff, enterprising traveling door-to-door salespeople who delivered tea and coffee to customers at home from the back of their horse-drawn wagon. As their business took off, the duo was able to add more routes and hire more employees.
A subsequent stream of grocery store and supply chain acquisitions led to steady growth in the years that followed, and by the time Jewel Food Stores acquired Chicago-based Osco Drugs in the 1960s, the company had firmly established itself across the north and central Illinois regions, stretching as far as Iowa and into several west-central Indiana markets as well.
Now part of the Albertsons Companies family, Jewel-Osco stores still pride themselves on providing an outstanding shopping experience for their customers.
