Wonder Years Learning center co-owners Jorge and Erika Gutierrez have given peace a chance.
When it comes to watching other people’s children, the center does not want parents to worry while they are away from them.
“Ultimately what we strive for is parents’ peace of mind,” Jorge Gutierrez says. “When you have a baby and you are looking for a day care or child care or preschool, the biggest thing you stress is finding a place you can trust.
“You are leaving your most precious thing on the planet who will spend more time than the parents do. We have to earn their trust every day.”
Erika Gutierrez says a part of that trust stems from having a stable administration.
“Administration has been with us 14-plus years,” she says. “Longevity is also important because parents like to see the same people and not a lot of turnover.”
Wonder Years Learning Center also was voted Best Pre-K Early Education Facility.

Some may see this work as just laying down concrete.
Bernie Grisolia, however, sees it differently. He approaches his projects the same way Michelangelo approaches a painting.
“I put a lot of artwork into my concrete,” Grisolia says. "I go for different designs and I try to fancy is up a little bit.
“Most people think it’s just concrete but I look at it as artwork.”
Grisolia has been around the business all of his life and is proud of his father, Giovanni, who opened the place in 1972.

Daniel Lendabarker has been a locksmith for 12 years, and two years ago, he decided to own his own company.
“It was a high startup cost, and things were pretty complex,” he says. “But it’s a business where you either know how you do it or you don’t.”
He knows his business, much of which centers on vehicle keys with some home security aspects as well.
One of the keys to the key business is helping consumers replace lost keys, which are becoming expensive with technology.
“We usually do business to business but we also get customers off the street and we take very good care of them,” he says, adding that replacing, say, a key to a 2022 Ford F-150, can cost hundreds of dollars at the dealer.
“People don’t have money for that. We come out and we’ll make them a key and get them back on their way for a reasonable price.”

Founded in 2025, Duvall Coating Solutions is a family-owned concrete-coating company serving Northern Indiana and the greater Chicago area.
“We launched a business knowing there were gaps in the coatings industry,” said owner Klint Duvall. “We studied our competitors closely to develop our business model.”
Duvall and his sons, brother-in-law and nephew specialize in high-performance polyaspartic concrete coatings for garages, basements, workshops and commercial spaces. The private-label coating they use is six times stronger than traditional epoxy, slip and UV-resistant and withstands the Midwest climate. They also offer concrete polishing and staining.
“We prioritize customer satisfaction across every stage, from sales to installation, working closely with clients to bring their vision for indoor and outdoor spaces to life,” said Duvall.

Your Little Details owner Allison Kelley is the designer and lead planner of the stationery company she founded 6 years ago. Your Little Details offers custom and semi-custom invitation suites, signs and other paper goods for weddings and events.
“We also offer full-service wedding and event planning and coordinating services,” said Kelley.
“In 2020, when weddings and events were being canceled, postponed and decreased in size, I started Your Little Details with the mindset that couples would still want something special and personal when it came to invitations and paper goods,” said Kelley.
Kelley has been in the wedding and event industry since April 2018, as a wedding planner and coordinator. “I’ve been in the industry a long time and I just love being a part of every event I’m hired to do,” said Kelley. “Knowing that I can create something special and memorable for my couples and clients while taking stress off of them means the world to me, and it’s what drives my motivation every day to keep running my business.”

The Tattoo Lady, a tattoo and body piercing studio in Hammond since 1997, was founded by Kelly Voris to create a friendly, safe space for memorable tattoos at affordable prices.
Voris, an artist educated at the American Academy of Art and South Suburban College, started with nine tattoos herself. By the shop's opening, just two doors from its current location, she had about 40. "The first one is always the hardest,” she says.
Her goal was to foster a welcoming and comfortable environment where originality thrives. "I wanted it to be a space where everyone feels at home,” she added.
