“We offer a wide variety of merchandise, ranging from furniture, collectibles and home decor to books, candles, soap, and a large assortment of vintage, retro and handcrafted treasures,” said Turner.
The sisters attribute their success to growing up with a family retail business and a father steeped in work ethic and determination. “In addition, we have an incredible group of vendors who pour their hearts and souls into their beautiful spaces.”
According to Turner and Nosal, they hear from customers thrilled to have “found” their shop and visit with their friends.
“It is just such a positive, fun and creative environment, and we are thankful for the opportunities we have here every day,” said Turner and Nosal.

Willy’s Works Fireworks brings the celebration to Crown Point.
Ricky "Ricochet" Chandler Jr. is the second generation owner of the fireworks business started by his father Ricky Sr., better known as “Willy,” in 1980. “It started out with 10-12 customers attending a tent fireworks stand in front of Jewel marketplace.” Now thousands go to Willy’s for fireworks.
“We engage with customers using words that start with W in fast, tongue-twister-style sayings that get people smiling and laughing,” explains Chandler.
Willy’s Works believes strongly in giving back to the community. “Willy’s Works donates substantially to our fire department, police, and special needs organizations every year. We also host an annual holiday called “Willy Wednesday”. On the last Wednesday in June, they put on a family-friendly community celebration with music, food, and a Willy Wonderful Fireworks show.
They also look forward to getting everyone ready for the 250th birthday of America.
It is the great customer service that makes them a winner in the Region. As Chander puts it: “It’s thanks to you Willy’s Works Works. Without you, we’d be Willy Without Works, and that Willy Wouldn’t Work Well.”

Three generations have carried on the tradition of exceptional service at Highland Jewelers Diamond Center. Owner Karen Fowler appreciates the loyal customers who have trusted them when it comes to buying and selling gold.
There is no charge for the appraisal service.
“Our jeweler and gemologist will appraise and estimate the value of your gold and diamonds while you wait,” says Fowler. “We guarantee the best prices are paid for your gold and diamonds. With gold prices at record high levels, now is an ideal time to sell.”
With jewelers who also can transform gold into unique pieces, the staff at Highland Jewelers listen to their customers to deliver exceptional service.

The success of a resale or consignment store such as Restored Resale in DeMotte begins and ends with people.
Store manager Cathy DeFries speaks highly of the them.
“From the moment you walk through our doors, you’re welcomed by some of the friendliest, most passionate volunteers and staff you’ll ever meet who are committed to exceptional customer service.”
But the praise doesn’t end there. “We are fortunate to have incredible customers who truly understand what Restored Resale is all about.”
Bargains found in the clean, organized store help shoppers give back to the community, particularly the DeMotte Christian Schools that benefit from the proceeds from the sales.

Black Diamond Vintage has carved out a niche as a go-to spot for sneaker enthusiasts and streetwear fans, offering a curated mix of new and used footwear alongside vintage apparel. The shop buys, sells and trades, with a focus on sought-after brands and styles.
Owner Kalem Martin, a Gary native, has built the business around accessibility and community. “We buy new and used shoes, any size, box or no box,” he said. “We mostly look for Jordans, Yeezys, Dunks, Kobes, LeBrons, Asics and New Balances.”
That approach keeps inventory fresh and customers coming back, whether they’re hunting for a rare pair or looking to trade. The store also offers shipping. “I just want to say thank you to the Region community for voting me Best Shoe Store in the Region,” Martin added.

With locations in Crown Point, Schererville and Lowell, Tobacco Island continues to expand its footprint across Northwest Indiana.
Operated by sisters Jennifer and Jess Buksar, the business has grown steadily over the past nine years, starting in a 1,100-square-foot space in Crown Point and expanding to a 2,500-square-foot storefront. The newest Lowell location, which opened Oct. 2, combines a retail shop with a cigar lounge.
“Our motto is simple: If we won’t put it in our bodies, we won’t sell it to you,” Jennifer Buksar said.
By purchasing directly from manufacturers, Tobacco Island ensures its products are always genuine and held to a high standard. The shop carries an extensive selection of cigars and accessories, while hosting summer events and welcoming cigar companies into the store.
Staff are trained thoroughly with a focus on long-term growth and development, helping create consistency across all three locations. Tobacco Island also stays active in the community through initiatives like Heroes Helping Heroes, veteran-focused charities, and neighbor discounts—reinforcing its role as more than just a retail shop, but a connected and trusted part of the Region.
Tobacco Island also was voted Best Cigar Lounge.

Bricks & Minifigs has become a go-to destination for Lego enthusiasts of all ages. Since opening Jan. 10, the independently owned shop that's part of a nationwide network of more than 270 locations has filled a gap in the Region’s retail scene. The shop has offered everything from new sets to retired collections and pre-built creations. It caters to kids and serious collectors, delivering an experience that goes beyond a typical toy store.
“We wanted to create something the Region was missing — an experience where people can come in and really connect with Lego,” said owner Daniel Wagenmaker. With a large, ever-changing inventory, the store offers service that keeps customers coming back.
“At the end of the day, it’s all about the customer experience,” Wagenmaker added, noting the goal is simple: To make every visit enjoyable and memorable for every customer.
