Dermio Dermatology opened in late 2015 at its flagship location across from Community Hospital in Munster. Over the years, they’ve added locations in Dyer, Valparaiso and Crown Point.
“Dermio stands out for many reasons, but above all, it's our commitment to patient satisfaction that sets us apart. We've all been there — needing to reach a doctor’s office and getting stuck in endless phone tag. That’s not the experience at Dermio,” said Julia Henry, front office manager. “When you call us during business hours, you’ll speak to a real person in the office. And if calling isn't convenient, we offer texting for fast, easy communication.”
Most of the offices also offer extended hours to accommodate busy patients.
“Patient care is the heart of everything we do. We proudly treat patients of all ages and are dedicated to making care as accessible and personalized as possible,” said Henry. “Patients can schedule online or over the phone, choose their preferred provider and location, and even fill out paperwork in advance to ensure a seamless visit.”
The personalized care each patient receives further elevates the overall experience. “Our staff is truly the soul of our practice,” said Henry.

At Residences Senior Living, fostering a secure, comforting and home-like atmosphere in the memory care units is important, offering families the reassurance that their loved ones are cared for with warmth and dignity in a place they can call home.
Melissa Caldwell, principal, WestShore Senior Living, which manages Residences Senior Living, says several programs provide that level of support to residents and their families. This includes salon services, scheduled transportation, multisensory therapy programmingto stimulate or calm the senses and multipurpose activity rooms for art classes, fitness programs and religious services.
Monthly dementia support groups for family and the public are led by a licensed social worker, and a weekly Parkinson's group and exercise program offer a morale boost through movements based on boxing and cardio drumming while providing coping tips.
“These services help Residences Senior Living’s memory care families and the public tremendously,” Caldwell said. “With memory care, we try to serve the entire family, not just our residents. When one person is diagnosed with dementia, it affects the entire family, and we recognize this and work hard to provide support.”

Michelle Hynek has a passion for working with the senior community. As a registered nurse at Belvedere Senior Housing, Hynek says she finds deep fulfillment in building personal connections with residents.
“My favorite part is listening to my residents share their life experiences, taking the time to hear them, to make them feel seen and valued,” she said. “I’m privileged to have potentially 126 grandmas and grandpas.”
Hynek began working at Belvedere in 2020 to complete requirements for her nursing program. She won a Shining Star Award at the facility in 2021 and graduated from nursing school in 2022. She began working as a floor nurse at Belvedere while juggling a nursing position at a local emergency room. In 2023, she accepted the position of assistant director of nursing at the senior facility and was promoted to director of nursing in 2024.
“Belvedere had been like home for four years at that point, and I had fallen in love with my residents and their families,” she said. “That’s why I chose ‘home’ over emergency medicine.”
Hynek spends her days educating her residents on medication changes, upcoming procedures and new diagnoses, as well as collaborating with physicians and families to ensure the best care possible.
“I educate my staff on the ‘why’ behind the rules and expectations, while trying to encourage them to be successful and passionate about their jobs,” she said.
While her newest management role at the facility involves more administrative duties and paperwork, her passion for face-to-face time with residents continues.
“My residents truly are special to me, and they know it,” she said. “Or I have not done my best.”

Orthopedic Specialists of Northwest Indiana has been a one-stop shop for all orthopedic needs for more than two decades. The practice’s surgeons have been trained at world-class institutions, including University of Chicago, Northwestern University and Rush University.
The team at OSNI helps patients manage orthopedic needs from spine, neck and back issues to sports medicine, hip and knee problems, foot and ankle issues, hand and wrist problems, elbow issues, physical medicine and rehab, pain management and orthopedic trauma.
The practice embraces cutting-edge technologies including robotic joint replacements and minimally invasive techniques to shorten a patient’s recovery time.
"Too often in medicine, care is driven by what shows up on an image," said Dr. Nitin Khanna, spine surgeon. "But at OSNI, we believe real healing starts with understanding the person behind the diagnosis. We use imaging as a guide, but never let it replace the value of a thorough conversation, a thoughtful exam and truly personalized treatment."
"Being named Best of the Region for Orthopedics for the 15th consecutive year is an incredible honor, and a reminder of why we do what we do — to serve our patients with care that goes far beyond the scan," Khanna said.

From the front desk to the providers at Midwest Express Clinic, every staff member is focused on delivering quality care to each patient.
“We want our patients to know convenience is something we pride ourselves on, but compassion is what separates us from other urgent cares,” said Muhammad Tayyab, director of operations. “It’s why families keep choosing us and why this recognition means so much.”
Midwest Express Clinic has expanded to more than 50 locations across the Midwest, offering walk-in care seven days a week. The urgent care facility also has a community outreach division that focuses on serving the community through partnerships, youth sponsorship, charities and education.
“Being recognized by the community means everything to us,” Tayyab said. “It’s a reflection of the trust we work hard to earn every day.”
“We are deeply honored and sincerely grateful to our patients and community members for voting Midwest Express Clinic as Best Urgent Care," said Dr. Brian Cruz, chief medical officer. "This award is more than just a recognition; it’s a reflection of the trust and relationships we’ve built across the Region. We never take that trust for granted. Every visit is a chance to make a difference, and this honor reminds us how impactful that difference can be.”

At Region Vein, the staff doesn’t only treat veins, office manager Rose Becerra says.
“We transform lives,” she said. “What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to personalized care, cutting-edge technology and a compassionate approach that sees the person, not just the condition.”
Patients have a variety of options to treat lower leg varicose vein disease, from the minimally invasive Varithena treatment that doesn't require general anesthesia, sedation and incisions, to spider vein sclerotherapy, a noninvasive treatment used to treat blood vessels on the surface of the skin that can cause discomfort.
“Our highly skilled and compassionate staff and a welcoming, family-like atmosphere ensures every patient feels truly cared for and comfortable,” said Gail Brown, Region Vein technical director.

Dr. Steven Levin and his staff believe great eye care goes beyond prescriptions.
“It begins with listening, understanding and treating each person with genuine care and respect,” he said.
In addition to offering complete eye care services that include comprehensive exams, glasses and contacts, Levin Eye Care Center also provides eye disease management, LASIK, treatment for dry eye syndrome and a Vision Therapy Program designed to identify hidden vision problems that may be learning- or trauma-related. Patients also have access to scleral lenses, which help with astigmatism, keratoconus correction or dry eye.
And the staff is trained to use vision therapy to treat children who have ADHD, autism spectrum disorders or are neurodivergent.
“This award is a reflection of our unwavering commitment to not only restoring sight but enriching the lives of every patient we serve,” Levin said.

Dr. Alli Amptmeyer and Dr. Ashley Weiner founded Pelvic Affinity two years ago to specialize in treating bladder, bowel and sexual dysfunction, as well as prolapse, pregnancy/postpartum recovery and menopause-related concerns.
With a team committed to providing one-on-one, personalized care throughout the treatment plan, they work to support women with expert, compassionate and focused pelvic health physical therapy. It’s an approach that seems to be filling a need.
“Patients love coming to Pelvic Affinity because they feel truly cared for,” says Weiner. “We treat everyone like we would our own family and friends in a calming, welcoming space with private treatment rooms where patients feel safe, supported and never judged.”
And though they knew they would face some stiff competition from bigger providers around the area, Amptmeyer and Weiner also felt that their relentless commitment to finding answers and getting to the root cause of every patient issue would resonate with women throughout Northwest Indiana.
“From Day 1, our mission was to provide the absolute best care possible,” says Dr. Amptmeyer. “To get this kind of recognition is truly humbling, and we’re so grateful for the overwhelming support from our community and the love from our patients."
