IU Northwest athletics administrators appointed to NAIA leadership roles
Two IU Northwest athletics administrators have been selected for national leadership positions with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Assistant director of athletics for communications was selected as an at-large member of the NAIA-SIDA (Sports Information Directors of America) Executive Board. Anna Villanueva, associate director of athletics and senior woman leader, was appointed to the NAIA R.I.S.E. (Respect, Inclusivity, Support and Education) Committee. Both appointments took effect in July 2026.
Marshelia Harris, Dan Kelly and Erin Schaefer selected for FACET
Marshelia Harris, assistant professor in the School of Social Work, Dan Kelly, associate professor of chemistry, and Erin Schaefer, assistant professor of English, were selected for membership in the Faculty Academy on Excellence in Teaching (FACET).

Established in 1989 as an Indiana University Presidential Initiative, FACET recognizes faculty members who have made consequential contributions to students and demonstrated a commitment to advancing the university’s teaching and learning mission. Harris was selected for the honor by FACET’s Statewide Selection Committee.
Career Services receives $23,000 to support RedHawks Career Launch Program
Diava Carter, director of Career Services at IU Northwest, received a 2026-27 IU Foundation Affinity Giving grant to support the RedHawks Career Launch Program. The Black Philanthropy Circle and Latino Philanthropy Circle awarded $21,500 to the initiative.
Following Carter’s presentation, individual donors contributed an additional $1,500 to the project, bringing the total support to $23,000.
Anja Matwijkiw continues United Nations scholarship and engagement
Anja Matwijkiw, professor of ethics and human rights and IU Northwest’s 2024-25 Indiana Presidential Fellow, continues her scholarly engagement with the United Nations. Her essay on United Nations law and global regionalism was published in March 2026 in the two-volume Essays on Global Regionalism, part of Springer Nature’s United Nations University Series on Regionalism. Matwijkiw’s essay was selected through a competitive United Nations University call commemorating the 25th anniversary of its Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies.
Matwijkiw also presented research on university education and corruption at the 11th Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption in December 2025 in Vienna and in Doha, Qatar. She participated in the panel “Education against Corruption for Students: Global, Regional and National” and served as a delegate for the European Public Law Organization.
Maureen Rutherford named Carol Ann Paul Educator of the Year
Maureen Rutherford, associate professor of psychology at IU Northwest, received the 2025 Carol Ann Paul Educator of the Year Award from the Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience (FUN). The national award recognizes outstanding contributions to undergraduate neuroscience education.
