As the real estate continues to slump, many homeowners find themselves living in homes that have become drab and tired looking. From the faded couch to the ‘way to small' kitchen table, living in a less than desirable living space is no fun.
But often times, all it takes is just one new piece of furniture to not only freshen up a room, but also freshen up one's attitude regarding their home. For over thirty years, the skilled staff at Merrillville's Economy Furniture has offered Northwest Indiana resident a wide array in furnishings at the best price in town. And as a family owned business, Economy Furniture owner Mark Kaye says he is proud to not only be active in the community, but also offer everyone in the community a fair price, especially in light of the tough economy right now.
"I'm proud we are out there offering credit to our customers," says Kaye. "We have worked hard to make adjustments to our policy since we know people are having a rough time out there, including offers of less money down and low payments that they can truly afford."
It's these business ideals that Kaye learned from his father, who was a longtime business owner in nearby Gary. "I remember me being in my 20's and my dad telling me to treat everyone as if they are ready to buy," recalls Kaye, who offers both wholesale and retail products as his Merrillville location. "My father believed that every customer who walks through our doors deserves to be treated the same way, with both respect and care. And believe me, it's a lesson I have learned time and time again throughout the years."
Kaye says at one time, he was overseeing 5 different stores in the area, but his move to go down to just one store shortly after his father passed away 12 years ago has been a blessing, allowing him to concentrate on a customer at a time.
"I just love people and I love doing what I do," explains Kaye. "Not only can I offer credit, but I can also offer them the best price and get their products to them right away. We even offer free delivery, something that we have offered to our customers right from the start. The customers always come first in our book."
