Reason for Induction: Recognized as the first to introduce advanced surveying instruments called laser trackers and laser scanners in the global steel industry in Northwest Indiana and beyond.
Mike Falk was the first to introduce advanced surveying instruments called laser trackers and laser scaners in the steel industry in NWI and beyond. He had first used this technology in when helping design a supercollider in Texas. When introducing this technology at Inland’s Hotstrip Mill in 1998, this introduced a faster more accurate system that helped companies optimize performance and alignment of equipment, in addition to improving safety.
He not only differentiated himself against competition through innovative technology, but Falk-PLI has the most lasers and scanners in the industry. In addition to operations in Pittsburg and Mobile, Al, Falk-PLI is moving to larger offices at Ameriplex in Portage. Here’s what Gov. Pence said in part about Falk-PLI: “The success of innovative companies like Falk PLI is proof that Hoosier ingenuity, paired with a prosperous business climate, can foster dramatic growth.
Ronald E. Ashburn, Executive Director, Association for Iron and Steel Technology added, “I perceive Mike’s contribution to the steel industry to be one of transformative innovation. His pioneering work in the application of laser technology to the installation and performance assessment of large manufacturing equipment brought about significant innovation in process, service and product quality.” He said he has sustained his leadership by applying the technology beyond simple alignment to solving significant process-related problems.
Falk-PLI is in the forefront in bringing new technology to the steel industry, which has benefited from this technology. Mike added, “If we want to be competitive, we have to be better through technology. We have to work smarter.”
