EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — Mari Williams scored her 17th goal of the season, Kaleigh Blatti made six saves, and the Indiana University Northwest women's soccer team blanked Judson 2-0 on Saturday for its sixth straight victory.
The RedHawks controlled the pace from the start. Maya Maldonado and Ava Haluska each tested Judson goalkeeper Eva Fernandez in the opening 12 minutes, and IUN broke through in the 14th minute when Haluska's service forced a Judson own goal for a 1-0 lead.
IUN kept pressing. Williams, Gabby Maldonado and Haluska all had looks before halftime, and Haluska sent in two first-half corner kicks, but Fernandez held firm to keep the Eagles within a goal at the break. IUN outshot Judson 10-2 in the first half.
Judson came out more aggressively after halftime. Amira El Mansouri, Isabela Santana and Dafne Caballero all tested Blatti between the 54th and 59th minutes, and she turned each one away to protect the lead.
The RedHawks answered in the 63rd minute. Williams finished from a hard angle on the right side to beat Fernandez and make it 2-0, giving her 17 goals on the year. Blatti then denied Anika Elgin and Seba Aboushaala in the closing stretch to complete the shutout.
IUN outshot Judson 24-8 and put 15 shots on goal to the Eagles' six. Maya Maldonado led all players with 11 shots, eight of them on target. Fernandez finished with nine saves for Judson.
With the win, Indiana Northwest improves to 11-4-1 overall and 6-1-0 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, remaining in second place in the CCAC standings. The RedHawks hit the road next, traveling to La Crosse, Wis., to face Viterbo on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CDT.
