LOWELL - The Hanover Central volleyball team beat Lowell 25-16, 25-20, 25-13 on Thursday, Oct. 8, to extend its winning streak to six matches.
The sweep gave the Wildcats (25-7, 12-2 NCC) their 25th win of the season, matching last season's total. The Wildcats are back-to-back Northwest Crossroads Conference champions. Last season, Hanover Central went 25-5 and 12-0 in conference play.
It is the first time since 2016-17 and 2017-18 that the Wildcats have won at least 25 matches in back-to-back seasons. The two titles followed a 10-21 season in 2023-24 and a 14-19 season in 2024-25.
The Wildcats have dropped one set during their six-match streak, which began after a 3-0 loss at Lake Central on Sept. 28. Thursday's match was their third sweep in three days, following wins over Hobart on Oct. 6 and Merrillville on Oct. 7.
Against Hobart, Nora Edgerton had 13 kills, Hailey Wehle had 30 assists and Jessica Ferguson served six aces. In the win over Merrillville, Liliana Chorba had 19 digs and two aces, and Wehle added 19 assists, three solo blocks and three aces.
Hanover Central also swept Lowell on Sept. 10. The Red Devils fell to 8-18 and have lost six straight.
Hanover Central hosts River Forest in a sectional semifinal at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. The winner plays for the sectional championship at 6 p.m. that night.
