'New' Orland library keeps looking up as it turns 20

More anniversaries

It’s a big year for anniversaries in Orland Park.

Not only is the library celebrating 20 years at its Ravinia Avenue location, but Smith Crossing also is marking 20 years as well. The retirement community's sister business, Smith Village, is celebrating its 100th anniversary in the Beverly area in Chicago.

Through Oct. 28, the second floor of the Orland Park Public Library, 14921 S. Ravinia Ave., will feature a "20/20: One Hundred Years in Focus” timeline with facts and photos from the last 100 years regarding the area and the world.

 “Smith Crossing contacted us, and it correlated with our anniversary so they put that timeline together,” library Director Mary Adamowski said. “They even put the construction of our library in there.”

The panels make fun and interesting reading.

“I read most of it,” Adamowski said. “Every time I go out and I’m walking the corridor, someone is reading it. Young and old. I’m amazed. They put a lot of effort into it. It’s very nice.”
