Sandburg's girls volleyball team won its 19th straight regional championship 25-17, 21-25, 25-25Â over Homewood-Flossmoor on Oct. 26 in Orland Park, The Eagles' season ended Oct. 30 with a 25-16, 25-15 loss to defending Class 4A champion Mother McAuley.

This year, Sandburg volleyball coach Vales was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and he has been juggling treatments, teaching and coaching, including the girls team to a 19th regional title.Â
