HIGHLAND — Munster's offense picked the right night for its best performance of the season.
The Mustangs scored a season-high 52 points Friday and held off Highland 52-34 in a high-scoring Northwest Crossroads Conference game on the Trojans' home field.
The output easily topped Munster's previous best of 38 points, set against East Chicago Central on Sept. 18. The Mustangs (3-4) had also scored 37 against Griffith on Aug. 28.
Munster's offense needed to be sharp, because Highland had plenty of answers. Highland's Jake Slaven was a workhorse out of the backfield, carrying 25 times for 173 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught five passes for 53 yards and another score.
Trojans quarterback Aaron McCormack added 91 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground and completed 8 of 11 passes for 69 yards and a touchdown. The pair accounted for all five of Highland's touchdowns.
But Highland (1-6) couldn't keep pace with the Mustangs, who handed the Trojans their fifth consecutive loss. Highland has dropped 12 of its last 13 games dating to last season.
Munster returns home to host Lowell (5-2) at 7 p.m. Friday in another conference test. The Red Devils are coming off a 55-6 rout of Kankakee Valley.
Highland will try to snap its skid Friday at winless Kankakee Valley (0-7).
