ELGIN, Ill. — Indiana University Northwest volleyball kept rolling in CCAC play Saturday night, sweeping Judson (Ill.) 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-19) on the road at the Lindner Center. The RedHawks improved to 12-6 overall and 7-3 in conference play, while Judson fell to 7-14 and 3-8.
The opening set was a dogfight from the first point. Kaelan Murphy and Mya Williams traded early kills before Gabi Lilovich took over in the middle of the set, ripping off back-to-back attack errors forced and a kill off a Raniyah Preston assist to put the RedHawks in front. Judson refused to go away, with Alyssa Burke and Jaclyn Riedl answering kill for kill to tie the set at 22-22 and force an IU Northwest timeout. Out of the break, the RedHawks regrouped, and Amie Schutz closed it out with a kill off a Preston feed for a 25-23 win.
IU Northwest carried that momentum straight into the second, with Murphy opening the set on a tear — a kill off a Marissa Guiterrez assist followed by back-to-back service aces that pushed the lead to 6-1 and forced a Judson timeout. Lilovich and Schutz kept the pressure on through the middle of the set, trading kills to maintain the cushion, and although Judson chipped away late behind Burke and Riedl, the RedHawks had built too big a gap. Schutz capped the set with a service ace, and IU Northwest closed it out 25-20 to take a 2-0 match lead.
The RedHawks never let the third set get away from them. Preston opened the frame with a kill, an attack error forced and a service ace to help IU Northwest jump out front, and Lilovich and Lintner kept finding kills to keep Judson at arm's length. Judson made a late push behind Riedl and Burke to cut the deficit, but the RedHawks closed out the sweep on a Riedl attack error, sealing the 25-19 finish.
Schutz led all players with 12 kills on .357 hitting for a team-high 14.5 points, adding nine digs. Lilovich hit .333 with 10 kills and a match-high 12 assists for 11.0 points, while Preston directed the offense with 20 assists to go with three kills, two service aces and 7.0 points. Murphy added six kills and two service aces for 8.0 points, and Trinitie Lintner chipped in five kills on .308 hitting. Eva Everett paced the IU Northwest defense with 15 digs.
IU Northwest hits the road again Tuesday, Oct. 13, for a conference matchup at Calumet College in Whiting, Ind., with first serve set for 7 p.m.
